Class 2 (Year 2)
Welcome to Year 2 at Wakefield Methodist (VC) Junior, Infant and Nursery School.
Mrs Ward is the class teacher and is supported by Mrs Nikolova.
In Year 2 we encourage children to learn in an exciting, creative and supportive environment. Each child is treated as an individual and encouraged to take greater control of their own learning as they are moving towards the end of Key Stage 1.
The children are taught English, Maths, Science, ICT, as well as Physical Education, Religious Education, Design Technology, Art, Music, History and Geography. Furthermore, we focus on SEAL - Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning, which encourages children to take more responsibility for their own actions. This in turn enables them to choose good behaviour, increases self-esteem and helps them to talk about their feelings in a supported way.
We teach the curriculum through a project based approach in which all subjects focus on a particular theme. During the autumn term our project will focus on, 'What makes Britain great?'
Our two School Council Representatives are chosen by the children each year and take our ideas and share them with the rest of the School Council. Our Collective Worship Representative is also chosen by the children each year.
We have lots of fun in Year 2 and there are many opportunities for children to consolidate their learning through taking part in activities such as a visit to Scarborough, where we enjoy learning more about seaside features. We also enjoy a visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park where we enjoy learning about some amazing animals! We enjoy taking part in Key Stage 1 performances throughout the year where we get to show off our singing talents!
We have a 'Star of the Week' to celebrate success within our class. To encourage and reward our fabulous writers we have a writing bear who goes home with one child each week with a 'Star Writer' certificate.
Please do not hesitate to come in and chat if you have any questions throughout the year or alternatively get in touch via email or Classdojo.
